Bike, scooter, car or van: which courier for your shipment

Published on 23 September 2026 · 4 min read

The vehicle is not a detail: it sets the weight you can send, the real journey time across Paris and the price. How to read the size brackets and avoid a job cancelled on the doorstep.

On a courier platform you do not pick a vehicle directly: you declare a size bracket and a service level, and the network sends the right vehicle. Understanding that mapping avoids the unpleasant surprise of a courier leaving without your parcel.

The bicycle: unbeatable over short, dense distances

Up to a few kilos and the volume of an envelope or a small bag. Inside Paris at rush hour, a bicycle is often faster than a motorised two-wheeler: it gets through, it does not look for parking, and it stops at the door.

It is the natural vehicle for documents and small items. It is also the cheapest.

The scooter: the compromise for mid-sized parcels

A scooter top box swallows a medium parcel and covers longer distances without losing time. It is the default once you leave the document bracket, and on Paris-to-inner-suburb runs.

Its limit is volume, not only weight: a flat, bulky box can be refused even though it is light.

Car and van: volume, fragility, weather

Beyond twenty kilos or so, or for a bulky, fragile or rain-sensitive item, you need an enclosed vehicle. Journey times across Paris are worse, parking costs minutes, and the price reflects it.

It is the right call for IT equipment, valuable parts, and anything that cannot be strapped to a luggage rack.

The cargo bike: volume without an engine

Up to 50 kg and a generous volume, with no emissions, no low-emission zone to worry about and no parking problem. On short, dense routes it rivals a van while costing less.

The trade-off is time: on a 50 kg cargo load, expect 1h30 on Super Express and up to 4 hours on Eco. For shop restocking or event equipment, that is rarely an issue.

How not to get the size wrong

Measure the largest dimension before ordering. When in doubt, declare the larger bracket: a few euros more beats a job cancelled on the doorstep and started again.

  • Document: up to 5 kg, 20 × 15 × 20 cm — envelope, file, keys.
  • Parcel: up to 30 kg, 90 × 65 × 50 cm — box, bag, equipment.
  • Cargo: up to 50 kg, 100 × 90 × 50 cm — volume, restocking, events.
  • Van: 70, 500 or 750 kg — pallets, furniture, a full load.

Something to send?

Enter both addresses: a firm price appears before you commit, and the job leaves straight away.

Frequently asked questions

Four formats: Document up to 5 kg (20 × 15 × 20 cm), Parcel up to 30 kg (90 × 65 × 50 cm), Cargo up to 50 kg (100 × 90 × 50 cm) and Van, to be chosen between 70, 500 and 750 kg. The format decides the vehicle sent: beyond a document, it is no longer a bicycle but a scooter, a car or a van.

Yes, by ticking the “fragile” option in the form: the information reaches the courier. Packaging remains your responsibility and must protect the contents during a two-wheeler journey.

Yes. The parcel must be closed and protected before the courier arrives; couriers do not supply packaging. Poorly protected contents are the leading cause of disputes.
